Historical Photos of the Bell System

The following two photos are from Ron Christianson of the "Cyber Telephone Museum" (http://www.museumphones.com).

The photos are of a 1940s Bell System "Splicer's Tool Cart" that he just acquired.  This one was used in Portland, Oregon by Pacific Northwest Bell.

The following information was sent to me by Tom Steed, Mid Hudson (NY) Cable Maintenance:

"The Splicer's Trailer is commonly know as a Tool Cart. The center fold down door in the middle became a work bench which we prepared lead sleeves to be "lead wiped" and create an airtight splice enclosure. Underground cables are pressurized to trigger an alarm if a leak develops."
